Overcoming Low Mood | Negative Thinking | Depression

Dealing with life’s difficulties naturally brings about times of sadness and frustration. The loss of a hoped for situation or experiencing a negative event is usually accompanied by a period of sadness as we come to terms with what happened. You may also feel sad if you are facing the end of a relationship or managing a difficult decision. These feelings usually pass and we come back to a more fulfilled sense of self. However, with low mood and depression these feelings tend to stay with us and may also include some of the following symptoms.

Symptoms of Low Mood & Depression:

  • Negative predictions about the future
  • Over thinking negative events in the past
  • Feelings of hopelessness about the present and future
  • Feeling unable to help oneself – helplessness
  • Over focusing on the negatives and presuming it will remain the same
  • Is more present than not over weeks and sometimes months
  • Feeling very tearful
  • Feeling irritated and intolerant of others
  • Difficulty sleeping or staying asleep
  • Lacking in motivation
  • Withdraws into oneself – away from family, friends or colleagues
  • Feeling no joy or pleasure in things you once enjoyed
  • Feeling numb or separate to what is happening around you
